Hanimau - Plymouths Premiere Karate Training

Introduction

JUN FAN KICKBOXING/JKD

Jun Fan Kickboxing/JKD is the personal fighting system of the late great Sijo Bruce Lee. The system comprises a combination of many forms of martial arts including Wing Chun Kung Fu, Western Boxing, Fencing, various grappling arts and Northern Chinese Kung Fu.

When training in Jun Fan Kickboxing at Hanimau Martial Arts you will learn numerous trapping, punching and kicking drills, which will not only greatly improve your martial skills and fitness, but also your knowledge of how to defend yourself at any range.

The Jun Fan Kickboxing/JKD taught at Hanimau Martial Arts is the mainstay of training and includes focus pad drills, bag work, energy drills, forms and light sparring. Another very important section of training is JKD Eskrima. This subject covers single stick, double stick, espada dagga, dagga, staff, tabok toyok and palm stick. The JKD Eskrima taught is from the Inosanto Lacosta system.

Techniques and terminology used come direct from Sifu Inosanto and his senior instructors, including Sifu Rick Faye and Sifu Ron Balicki. As a recognised JKD group affiliated to numerous organisations, Hanimau JKD practicioners are expected to test and show their skills in seminars held by the named Sifu’s and their lineage.

IP MAN WING CHUN KUNG FU

Hanimau Martial Arts instructor Steve Harrop teaches Ip Man Wing Chun under the guidance of Grand Master Samuel Kwok. It is a very unique and scientific form of martial arts, in that it’s speciality is in close contact combat, using quick punches with a tight defence, co-ordinated through agile stances for a quick advance. The effectiveness of Wing Chun is achieved by well co-ordinated attacks with simultaneous defence and visa versa, yet delivering the correct amount of energy, whilst remaining flexible and relaxed.

Unique to Wing Chung is “Chi Sau”, a form of training to help develop and put into practice your techniques and theories you learn during your training. Chi Sau teaches and helps you to develop, responsive reflex, position, how to overcome your opponent’s strength, correct usage of energy and taking advantage of the shortest possible distance between you and your opponent.

The principles, theories and techniques of Wing Chun are founded on the three hand form and the wooden dummy techniques. Training begins with "Sil Lim Tau" (little idea), "Chum Kiu" (bridge seeking arm) and “Biu Gee" (thrusting fingers). More advanced students will learn "Muk Yan Ghong" (wooden dummy), "Luk Dim Boom Gaun" (six & a half point pole) and finally "Bart Cham Dao" (eight cutting double knives).

It was Ip Man’s dream to spread Wing Chun around the world, and through tuition by his sons, Samuel Kwok has played his part over the last twenty five years, bringing Wing Chun to the forefront of Martial arts practice today. There are many Wing Chun schools across the United Kingdom, as well as in Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Australia and the United States to name but a few. Many of the Sifu's at these schools owe a great deal of their understanding of the art to the influence of Samuel Kwok, teaching traditional Ip Man Wing Chun.

With the guidance of Ip Chun and Ip Ching, Samuel Kwok continues to represent Traditional Ip Man Wing Chun in Europe, as he has done for many years.

Ip Man Wing Chun is taught to members of the Devon and Cornwall Chinese Association and also to selected, dedicated Hanimau Club members, who have the same wish as Grand Master Samuel Kwok to continue the development, skill and fighting prowess of Ip Man Wing Chun. For more information call Sifu Steve Harrop.

HANIMAU TAEKWONDO

Taekwondo (TKD) is the system of hard traditional Korean martial arts used by Hanimau Martial Arts.
The system is taken from WTF Taekwondo. This can be found when performing Taeguek patterns and one step sparring. The full contact free sparring in Korean TKD is in line with that used within the Olympic Games, we do however also demonstrate and teach the semi contact use of hands, more akin to the ITF style of Taekwondo, as Hanimau Martial Arts believes that this semi-contact sparring is more suited to street self defence.

All students are assisted with their development at a pace best suited to them. They are coached throughout each of their training sessions, developing their psychomotor skills, confidence, fitness levels and most importantly, their communication skills and ability to interact within the class and with all age groups.

A positive factor training as an individual in Taekwondo, is being able to train at your own level and to progress at your own pace. People of all ages with different fitness levels can train together and achieve their own personal goals from Taekwondo.

When training in a mixed forum, fitness levels can vary right across the spectrum. This is why all Hanimau classes are designed to allow an individual to develop at a pace best suited to their needs.

Flexibility and Suppleness is particularly important in competitive sparring, which is why we use a well balanced flexibility and stretching programme in conjunction with constructive and progressive Physical Training, to ensure the progressive development of all students.

As students progress through their patterns and belts, they are offered additional modules, available within our curriculum, should they want to pursue a greater understanding of martial arts. These are Bo Staff, techniques from Hapkido, various styles of Japanese Karate and Chinese hard Kung Fu Styles such as Pak Mei and Wing Chun. These additional styles and techniques assist in developing a well rounded martial artist and are a few of the many areas available from Hanimau to those that want to learn.

KALI AND PANANTUKAN

The art of Kali is a diverse subject, which includes blade, stick and unarmed (Panantukan) systems which have been used by Filipino warriors for centuries.

When training in Kali with Hanimau Martial Arts you will be taught Panantukan, which is an unarmed Filipino fighting system. Panantukan has also been called dirty boxing by some observers as it is extremely destructive to an opponent and has no rules. Panantukan includes punching, kicking and throwing techniques, body manipulation, nerve/bone destruction, Hubud Lubud and devastating strikes. Panantukan is a massive subject that is extremely effective as a self defence fighting system.

The majority of Kali taught at Hanimau Martial Arts originates from Guro Dan Inosanto and Guro Ron Balicki. Being affiliated to numerous organisations, Hanimau JKD practicioners are expected to test and show their skills in seminars held by Guro Dan Inosanto and his top instructors, Guro Rick Faye, Guro Ron Balicki and Guro Rick Young.

Kali and Panantukan training is combined with Jun Fan Kickboxing/JKD training and Plymouth Doce Pares training.
